Choosing Ribbon Type and Formula
The ARMOR ribbon formulas and typical applications are summarized below.
For general purpose applications, we have included the most popular ARMOR formulas in our price tables — those are marked as RECOMMENDED and the formula name is highlighted with each price table.
However, if you have a special need and require pricing for one of the specialty formulas, please contact us.
Wax Ribbons: |

AWX66: RECOMMENDED — A general purpose wax ribbon enhanced with resin. Prints well on coated and uncoated papers and some synthetics. Improved smudge resistance compared to the AWR 210. Excellent print quality of picket and ladder barcodes, very small text, large characters, and logos. Heat resistant up to 149F (65C). Available in black, no colors.
Typical Applications: shipping labels, pharmaceuticals, retail labels, conveyor sorting, inventory labels, tags
AWR 210: A general purpose ribbon for printing on all kinds of papers — coated papers in particular. Also prints on some synthetics. It is an excellent print quality of picket bar codes, very small text , large characters, and logos. Light smudge resistance. Available in black and 10 spot colors.
Typical Applications: shipping labels, pharmaceuticals, retail labels, conveyor sorting, direct food contact
Wax / Resin Ribbons: |

APR 5: RECOMMENDED — A versatile formula for uncoated papers, coated papers and synthetics. Improved smudge resistance compared to the AWX 500+. Excellent print quality of all bar codes, very small text, large characters, and logos. Heat resistance up to 212F (100C). Available in black and 10 spot colors. The colored ribbons have a limited life if exposed to direct sunlight.

APR 600: RECOMMENDED — same as APR5, but for NEAR EDGE and CORNER EDGE printers.
APR 503: A premium formula for uncoated papers, coated papers, but particularly adapted to synthetics. Same smudge resistance as the APR 5. Excellent print quality of all bar codes, very small text, large characters, and logos. Heat resistance up to 212F (100C). Available in black and 10 spot colors.
Typical Applications: shipping labels, pharmaceuticals, retail labels, conveyor sorting, inventory labels, tags, flexible packaging, flexible packaging for frozen applications, signage, outdoorapplications, direct food contact, printing CDs and UV cured surfaces.

AXR 7+: RECOMMENDED — Excellent printing on most synthetics (PVC, PET, PE, PP) and matt and gloss coated papers. Not recommended for uncoated papers. The printed image offers excellent print quality, smudge and scratch resistance. Prints all types of barcodes, very small text and large characters and logos. Heat resistant to to 356F (180C). Available in black and 4 spot colors. Colors are sunfast for 1 year.
Typical Applications: pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, flexible packaging, flexible packaging for frozen applications, flexible packaging for hot processes, rating plates, retail labeling, signage, laboratory, health care labels, direct food contact, livestock tags, outdoor applications, & automotive.
AXR 600 RECOMMENDED — same as AXR7+ but for NEAR EDGE and CORNER EDGE printers.
AXR 8 — Excellent printing on most synthetics (PVC, PET, PE, PP) and on various matt and glossy papers. Designed for applications requiring a additional chemical and heat resistance (up to 482 F / 250 C) and improved mechanical resistance.
Typical Applications: pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, flexible packaging, flexible packaging for hot processes, rating plates, retail labeling, signage, laboratory, health care labels, direct food contact, livestock tags, outdoor applications, chemical drums, & automotive.
AXR 800 — Same as AXR8, but for NEAR EDGE and CORNER EDGE printers
AXR 9 — Designed for printing on textile labels such as nylon, polyester, acetate and other synthetics. Excellent print quality for very small text, large characters, logos and all types of barcodes. Resistant to washings (home, industrial, bleach), to dry cleaning and to ironing.
Typical Applications: Textile care labels, signage, health care labels, & outdoor applications.
AXR 900 — Same as AXR8, but for NEAR EDGE and CORNER EDGE printers
